Crescent Moon

Sandhill Crane
slowly
slowly lifting off

Crescent moon
piece by piece
disappearing slowly
until nothing is left

Blackness
Only the twinkle of stars
a reminder of the light that once was

With waves lapping at our ankles
like those little yappy-dogs
that girls carry
Our paths criss-crossing in the sand
Our fingers intertwined
Shoulders gently brushing
Almost a kiss, you could say
Looking over at me
a smile infused with love
kindness

The crescent moon gone
Blackness
Only the twinkle of stars a reminder
of the light that once shone
As your memory reminds me
of a joy that once was

Alone
in this blackness
in your absence
I stand
Alone
Alone
