Drive On

Rain-drenched mist
covers my valley
in its warm and wet
embrace

Distance obscured
Vision shortened
Yet the new moon
beckons
from afar

Come to me
my love,
it seems to say
in your voice
It is yours

Turning
I reach
for you
your hand

I find empty space.
Gone.
I had forgotten
for a moment
this space –
my space,
our space –
is no longer
home to you.
No longer shared

Slowly I return
to the mist filled road.
The silence
deafens.
The emptiness
assails me:
laughs
sneers

Smiling
gently
at all of this
I remember:
You will return

Smiling
gently
at the silence
at the emptiness
I hear you

Humming
Laughing
Crying

Smiling
I know
you
will
return

I will reach for
your hand
It will be there

I drive on.
Fearless
